The HEAL-DSpace Institutional Repository (IR) service is offered to, the Academic Institutions, and not only to them, in the form of Software As a Service (Saas). HEAL's Central Implementation team offers to both the institutions that joined the program during the design phase, as well as to institutions implementing standalone programs, the following capabilities:

  • Parameterization and installation on VMs (Virtual Machines) supplied by the Greek Research & Technology Network (GRNET).
  • Automatic meta-data enrichment services, using data from international electronic source librarian databases (e.g. WoS, Scopus, Microsoft Academic Search).
  • Base infrastructure Maintenance and upgrade services of DSpace versions, as produced by the international DSpace implementation community, aiming to homogenize the IR functionality.
  • Access to detailed documentation and additional tools produced during the IR enrichment phase.
  • Help and training desk, targeted at technical administrators.

Accessible Multimodal Electronic Library (AMELib)

AMELib aims to provide books accessible via the Internet to all beneficiaries who are print-disabled users of academic libraries in the country. It is also the first attempt to establish a collective online public access catalogue (OPAC), which is documented on the basis of international standards, the available accessible literature in Greece, while following the international developments.

Plagiarism Detection Service

Implementation of a Central Plagiarism Detection Service for all types of assignments (course assignments, undergraduate, or graduate thesis, etc). It will consist of a database and a repository that will host students’ assignment where the process of identifying plagiarism by special software will take place.

Semantic Search of Educational Content in Greek Universities

Developing integrated services for semantic search in educational resource repositories of learning objects created in Learning Management Systems (LMS) that are being used by Greek Universities and TEIs and their related metadata databases using ontologies. This will limit the possible different semantic interpretations that accompany a learning object, therefore facilitating the search and eventually the retrieval of learning objects (using as a criterion the adaptability to the needs of each user).
