Zephyros is a gateway to identify available books, journals and other materials in the Greek Academic Libraries’ catalogs. The interface is user friendly and is designed based on the Z39.50 protocol.
Zephyros has been created by the Information and Technology Services of the University of Crete Library. A key element in the design and implementation of Zephyros is to provide a homogeneous environment for search and retrieval of bibliographic information from the Greek Academic Libraries’ databases. Also it provides advanced services to its guest-users, such as the ability to create personal accounts, to save searches and records etc.
This is a service that gathers and lists bibliographic information, i.e. metadata, for the articles included in the Greek scientific journals, in order to facilitate search in the Greek scientific literature and to identify materials included in Greek scientific publications.
Through this service, thirty (30) academic libraries have acquired a single, centrally located, Library Management Information System , resulting in a catalog of bibliographic records and established authorities that are now common to all institutions (existing shared bibliographic records are consolidated in the central system of ILSaS). Also all the library automated functions were carried over from the local to the central system. These functions are acquisitions, circulation, tracking serial holdings, etc. In the new collaborative system, libraries will retain their autonomy with respect to all of its functions except cataloging.
Catalog of uniquely identified entities for Academic and Research Institutions, i.e., entity- person (entity-person for academic personnel, researchers) and entity- organization (entity-organization for academic institutions , research centers/institutes). The purpose of this service is to deal with cases of alternative formulations of the names of entities so as to facilitate and serve the development of a uniform policy regarding the operation of Subject and Institutional Repositories.
